Power bank shopping is confusing on purpose. Capacities are quoted in milliamp-hours (mAh), devices consume watt-hours (Wh), and the conversion between them hides real-world losses. Here is the five-minute version that lets you size any battery correctly.

The only formula you need

Watt-hours = (mAh u00d7 3.7 volts) u00f7 1000. A “20,000 mAh” power bank holds about 74 Wh. That 3.7 V is the battery cell voltage u2014 the honest baseline every bank shares regardless of marketing.

Then subtract the tax

What devices actually consume

Worked example: a weekend off-grid
